My first experience with CrossFit was in 2009 at 52 years old. CrossFit Central was recruiting for their new women's only program. I occasionally walked the Lamar School track with my husband and began seeing people across the street doing pull-ups and flipping tires. It was different from traditional gyms. I was intrigued but very intimated. I was encouraged by Coach Crystal (who recently became my new neighbor) to try the women's only class. Through the years travel and life pulled me away and then the pandemic hit. The lack of motivation caused me to go back to square one. I gained 25 lbs.

At 64, I was even more intimated to return to CrossFit Central but I knew in order to fight mother nature I needed to make fitness a habit and be consistent. I mustard up the courage to give Coach Carey a visit, I knew she would say all the right things to get me back on track.

Before returning, physically I was at my heaviest and on high blood medicine. I was definitely not happy with myself.

Lost 10 lbs, 5% body fat, and gained lean muscle

Since re-joining CrossFit Central I am more confident and quickly got off the high blood pressure medicine! Within a couple of months my clothes were fitting better. I dropped some pounds, inches, and gained muscle.

I still need to focus more on my nutrition but I am on my way. I am learning to hold myself accountable and invest in me. I recently had a bone density test and the nurse could not believe my numbers. She said my numbers were below the chart range for a woman my age. The doctor's office mailed out a routine postcard with the results. On it they crossed out "normal" and wrote "fantastic!"

The coaches are awesome you just know that they love helping people and they are truly there for you. The support is unmeasurable and the workouts are fun and challenging. I need the type of motivation that is given at CrossFit Central. No matter your fitness level you will feel you belong. I have a goal and I keep reminding myself that success is not what you do occasionally but what you do consistently. Look out 65!
