Thursday, 01.26.12: Big Mike's Athlete of the Month

Coach Big Mike's Athlete of the Month for January is Matt!  Matt is an athlete at both CrossFit Central and RedBlack Gym.  Big Mike chose Matt this month because of his always positive attitude, humility and committment.  Congratulations Matt!

"I’m motivated by my classmates and by my coaches, Big Mike and Jeff [McKinney]. I love the competition. I did both Fight Gone Bad and the Lean Turkey Challenge last year and enjoyed both very much. I look forward to improving my numbers significantly in FGB this year. I do these challenges because I want to see how I stack up against my fellow CrossFitters.

When I started CrossFit, I was 42 years old, weighed 165 pounds and had 17% body fat. I had low energy and ate ok, but far too much junk food. Now I weigh 160 pounds with 9% body fat and I have a very high energy level.

My goals now are to be the best husband and dad I can be; to give my family 100% of my Love; to improve my proficiency with muscle ups, OHS & HSW; to keep seeing improvements in all aspects of CrossFit; and to reach loan production volumes that I've never reached before"

Tuesday, 01.24.12: Jessica is Amazing

Jessica has had an amazing journey of losing 100 pounds, surviving 3 surgeries, 6 months of bedrest and a crazy travel schedule.  She has faught through it all to maintain her weightloss all with an incredibly positive attitude.

"Almost immediately after starting at CrossFit CentraI I hit my 100 pound mark for weight loss, dropped to 13 % body fat, wore a size 4 (as opposed to the size 22 just 10 months before), as well as achieved a PR on my half marathon time.

When I found CrossFit, I was actually 12.5% body fat, 150 pounds, 33 years old and in the best shape of my life. I’m now averaging 17% body fat and 160-165 pounds; however, I’ve had 3 surgeries since I started, all due to incidents outside of CrossFit, and was bed-ridden for over 6 months.  I had made a commitment to myself that I would not lose my fitness, health or my focus while recovering, and CrossFit Central is what held me in there. Coach Michael Gregory checking on me even when I couldn’t walk and letting me know he was ready when I would be ready really helped. If I had to do it all on my own, I know I wouldn’t be where I am today!"  Read Jessica's Story
