Travelling CrossFItter http://www.crossfitcentral.com/blog.php?id=44261

The Double Cs made it to China!  Randy is a long time member and diehard kettlebeller.  Randy takes on everything including CrossFit Endurance, indoor WODs and Kettlebell classes!  True to form, while traveling in China, Randy found the only CrossFit/Kettlebell gym in the country!  China's Kettlebell Club is located in Shanghai and had just achieved their official affiliation in time to welcome Randy!  Nothing proves the strength of the CrossFit community more than being in China finding a welcoming gym and a great WOD.

What is the best place you have found a new CrossFit box?

Relentless 5K http://www.crossfitcentral.com/blog.php?id=44203

Thank you to have everyone who came out to the Relentless 5K yesterday.  We had 40 athletes take on this 5K with a twist.  Each member of these teams of two completed 3 miles and a mini WOD which included box jumps and sandbag carries.  These athletes put in great effort and all completed the task under an hour.   Thank you to Camp Mabry for allowing us to use their field and to our sponsors, Fringe, Conley Sports, Trigger Point and Advocare.  This was the second event of the Relentless Event Series.  The conclusion of the series is Saturday, June 2nd with the Garage Gym Throwdown.  A special thanks to Brian Sullivan for taking amazing photos of the event.  View all photos

Team http://www.crossfitcentral.com/blog.php?id=44175

Did you ever play on a team growing up where the same kids played on that same team for years and years? Once those kids got to about 12 years old, they would usually dominate the league. The reason for their winning was not more practice than any other team, the kids were not better individual athletes than others in the league, and it wasn’t because their jerseys always seemed to be cooler than the rest. The simple reason for their dominance was their experience together as a team.
The same is true for CrossFitters especially as the team aspect of competitions continues to grow. How do you create a dynamic and powerful team? You train them together. Sometimes it will take 6 months, some teams a year and maybe more to really learn and know each other as individuals and as competitors. But given time, a team that trains perfect together, becomes victorious together.
If a team is what you are trying to build, train those people as a team. Together and daily through hard days and the off days. A team is a unit. In a team, there are no individuals, and no egos. There is no time for self pity, and no time for debate. A team must be able to rely on each other and know the person to their right, and to their left, is ready to fight until the end. Building a team is more than just, well, building a team. It is building a family.

Be Sure To Get Your Zinc http://www.crossfitcentral.com/blog.php?id=44099

Most of have heard that taking Zinc is great for fighting off an impending cold or sore throat but should you always include Zinc in your diet?  Coach Lauren McAuliffe believes you should.

"I’ve been reading a lot about minerals lately and through my own research, hope to bring you a brief overview of some nutrients your diet may be lacking. Zinc is often overlooked and not surprisingly, studies have shown that about 75% of the Western population have suboptimal intake. Zinc is an essential mineral that the body does not produce on its own. We also excrete zinc on a daily basis and these numbers increase with coffee or alcohol consumption, excessive exercise and stress. It’s important that we get zinc from our diets or take a supplement as there are a lot of reasons that zinc is good for you!

Here are 5 reasons zinc is a miracle mineral:

  • Builds & repairs our cells and tissues - maintains strong muscles and healthy bones, builds immune cells which is why it’s a natural medicine for a cold
  • Fights against damaging free radicals
  • Aids in digestion - helps produce digestive enzymes and stomach acid
  • Regulates blood sugar levels - *zinc is needed to make insulin!
  • Gives you energy!

The best sources of zinc are from animals such as oysters, liver, shellfish and red meat. In supplement form, try Zinc Picolinate as it’s the easiest form for the body to absorb. On average, we need 15-30 mg of zinc a day. I like to take a supplement and use it as an excuse to go toPerla’s or Parkside for oysters!"

Congratulations Claire! http://www.crossfitcentral.com/blog.php?id=44085

Claire started with Relentless Athletic Training last July and has become one of the most consistent, encouraging, and hard-working athletes in Coach Jess Clark's classes.  She has fully enrolled herself in the program, pushing herself to new heights and making constant improvements. She has gotten stronger, faster, and leaner, doing things she never thought she could (like running a 10K!), and has recruited her friends and sister to join. Claire understands the importance of a strong support system and having those closest to her involved in her health and fitness goals and pursuing the same goals will help her to be successful in our programs.

“I have always been an active person, but used to get bored with my workout routines and never felt fully challenged. Even though I started Athletic Training classes in the heat of summer, I knew after my first class I was hooked. The classes never get boring! They are always different and the camaraderie of our crew makes it fun. Coach Jess is super motivating and makes every class a challenge. I am definitely the strongest I have ever been. I have definition and muscle in places I never had before and my booty is perkier than ever.  I used to get regular shoulder pain, but this has almost disappeared with strengthening my back. I was nervous when I signed up for the Capital10K (my first 10K!) last month. But I did it with little training and it was easy! Thank you, Relentless Athletic Training!”
