It was summer, 2009. At dawn, I was with my eldest son in the Negev desert in Israel, hiking up a mountain. He was running circles around me, up and down and past all of the switchbacks.

Sunday, 02.05.12: Growing Is Living

Six weeks ago several of our coaches began a Super Squat program with Strictly Strength Founder, Travis Holley.  A project that began as an opportunity to work on squats and build physical strength has developed into much more.

"In addition to that, not every week is considered an "On-Week".  We've all been there.  Things just are flowing the way that you would like, but what we've learned is the invaluable lesson of being able to flip the switch.  To turn your mind off and focus on one thing for a specific purpose, knowing full well that it will be the hardest thing you do until next Friday.  This ability to focus your mind, body, spirit and the combined energy from all three has been a truly spiritual experience for me.
The gym is where I connect with myself.  The gym is where I connect with others.  The gym is where I grow, where I learn from my mistakes and build upon them to become stronger on all levels of being human."

What do you have in your life that connects you with others and continually makes you better?

Saturday, 02.04.12: Travelling CrossFItter

The Double Cs went on a cruise!  Molly Nye took the Double Cs on a week long cruise in the Carribean.  Molly is not only an amazing singer/song writer she is one of the newest additions to our staff.  As many of you know, she is endlessly friendly and incredibley interesting.  Molly recently went on a week long cruise and of course brought her CrossFit expertise with her.  She found time at least once, sometimes twice to take over the gym onboard.  She even met a fellow CrossFitter from Dallas while at sea.  Burpees in the middle of a boat gym will bring total strangers together.  Great job Molly!  Thanks for taking the Double Cs on a fantastic vacation!

Friday, 02.03.12: Welcome To The Gun Show

Kurt lost 20 pounds & 12% body fat

"One huge thing for me is that during this process of embracing better nutrition and consistent CrossFit WODs, I've been through some pretty major personal challenges.  CrossFit Central ATX has been a big part of getting me through it.  Not only has CrossFitting given me an extra reason to get some exercise, it provided a way to take out some frustrations in a very healthy manner.

CrossFit Central ATX has really changed my perspective on working out and what it means to be fit.  I've always run a lot and never liked to lift weights.  The CrossFit Central and Central ATX coaches do such a great job of promoting a collegial environment! All of the Coaches I have worked with Jen Cardella, JDPJess Estradaand Aaron Arehart constantly push me but manage to keep workouts light and fun as well!

Now I'm in the best shape of my life and I am so much better in all of the sports I play and coach for my three boys.   My energy is high, my metabolism is cranking and I am no longer resigned to wearing size 35 pants!  Best of all my sons now ask me if I have tickets to the Gun Show!"

Thursday, 02.02.12: Happy Times for Happy Hour

Congratulations Allison!  Allison is part of Coach John Del Peral's infamous 5:15pm "Happy Hour" crew.  Allison is an incredible example of someone who has chosen to be an athlete.  She began at CrossFit Central in 2009 after giving birth to her second child.  Allison was determined and became one of our 2010 Success Stories.  Nothing has slowed her down since joining!  She has even inspired other athletes to take on CrossFitting including her OBGYN!  Last Friday, Allison and Dr. Reue completed an early morning workout together before delivering her son Case!  Delivery day did not slow her down!  Allison completed "Nicole" with zero scaling!

"Actually, throughout the 9 months Allison scaled few things. Handstand walk and olympic weightlifting were all apart of her training regime. She was even a top finisher in most workouts up until the halfway point of her pregnancy!  Allison, we wish you a speedy recovery and will see you soon in the gym crushing workouts again!" --Coach JDP

Wednesday, 02.01.12: Choose to be an Athlete

Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman once said, “If you have a body, you’re an athlete.” Bill is a visionary man, but we have a different definition. We believe YOU make the choice to be an athlete. You make the choice to show up. To show up and run, jump, lift and move. You make the choice to improve your overall health and quality of your life. And most likely, you inspire your friends and family to improve their overall health.

Athlete: [ath-leet]  noun
{Someone who is trained or skilled in exercises or sports requiring physical strength, agility, or stamina}
ie: CROSSFIT
CrossFit is the Sport of Fitness and you, as a part of CrossFit Central, CrossFit Central ATX, CrossFit Trigger Point & Relentless Athletic Training are involved in the Sport of Fitness!

If you’re reading this, and thinking, “No way, I’m not an athlete!” Do you take on CrossFit or Relentless Athletic Training classes? If so, you are an athlete. If you’re reading this and thinking “I just want to fit in my jeans or keep up with my grandkids, I have no desire to take on competitions.” That’s ok too!  But consider that every time you choose a healthy meal or challenge yourself by stepping into the gym....you too are choosing to be an athlete.

This year, Live Up to Your Own Expectations.

YOUR SPORT - CrossFit
YOUR GAME – Life

The choice is yours!  In 2012, Choose To Be An Athlete.
